Public Advisory: ICOs and Suspicious Advertising
The cryptocurrency community and industry has recently observed a significant increase in activity related to Bitcoin ventures. Suspicious advertising campaigns have driven market value and buying activity for several ICOs. While the market numbers may appear promising, these movements could also be the result of risky or malicious schemes.
The intense and concentrated marketing behind the popularity of many ICOs is visible across print, online, and social media channels. Although the market’s positive response may appear beneficial to the cryptocurrency industry, constant and sustained growth can also be a warning sign, as it contradicts the typical and realistic movements of financial markets.
CoinPip would like to remind our clients, partners, and members of the public who are interested in entering this innovative and growing industry to exercise caution and conduct proper due diligence when considering cryptocurrency ventures, deals, and investment opportunities. As with any business activity, offers that appear too good to be true or promise quick and guaranteed returns should be carefully evaluated.
While Bitcoin and other digital currencies show enormous potential, they remain in an early stage of development. These coins and tokens are not yet widely regulated, and like many emerging industries, they involve uncertainty, risks, and price volatility. Although we are not predicting such events, a market downturn could lead to substantial losses for unsecured investments.
CoinPip follows and supports the Code of Conduct of ACCESS-SG, which prohibits members from participating in unethical activities or making irresponsible claims about cryptocurrency investments. We are not discouraging people from joining this innovative industry. On the contrary, we encourage participation—but with caution and well-informed decision-making.
